For several thousand years, parasols have been an iconic fashion accessory.
While modern parasols are more readily available, they are often impractical — too small and too sheer to provide any real shade. In fact, most parasols available today are best used as photo props and not much more.
FairiSol is a modern take on the historical parasol. FairiSol parasols are constructed from a sturdy wooden-handle umbrella — the umbrella serves as a “base” layer for the vibrantly colored cover, which is made by hand and attached permanently to the base.
All FairiSol sun shades are hand-crafted by one
individual — that’s me! My name is Robin Medina.
I live in a very quiet setting in Midcoast Maine,
where I am inspired every day by the rugged-but-tranquil
beauty that surrounds me.
When I moved here a few years ago, I found myself mesmerized by the twinkling pops of light dancing on the water in the sun. I perceived them as tiny light-beings, with little fairy wings. The enchanting “fairies” were elusive and mysterious, but only appeared in bright sunlight. The brighter the sunlight, the more intense the fairies would become, to the point where I had to shield my eyes from overhead. The fairy imagery stuck with me and became the inspiration for my personal solution to finding cover when the sunlight becomes just too much — FairiSol!
